Today we’re looking at an affordable assisted opener with quite an impressive bag of tricks: this is the Schrade A10 MAGIC.
Of course, the biggest feature of this knife is the MAGIC assist mechanism. The assisted opening function is very smooth and gives you lightning-quick deployment. There is also a safety mechanism in the handle that allows you to switch from assisted to manual opening, which is great for in-pocket carry and those times you want a bit more control when deploying. I found the dual thumbstuds to be much more useful in manual mode than the flipper feature.
The matte black drop point shaped blade is made from AUS-8 High Carbon Stainless Steel and measures just under three-and-a-half inches long. I’m a big fan of the blade shape and the non-glare coating. A combo-blade version is available as well, but personally I like the lack of serration and way the clean blade counterpoints the stylized handle.
That said, the milled aluminum handle offers tons of texture and grip, especially on the back side leading up to the jimping on the spine. The liner lock is sturdy and smooth. It has a non-reversible aluminum pocket clip for tip-up carry.
Overall, the Schrade A10 MAGIC is a feature-packed and affordable folder that would make a great Every Day Carry option.
