State of the KnifeCenter During Coronavirus

Handwritten letter on wooden desk

Hi everyone – my name is Seth. I run the KnifeCenter’s social media and write for the blog. I don’t normally step in front of the camera, but then again not much feels normal these days! I wanted to share with you what’s going on here at the KnifeCenter given the worldwide COVID-19 situation.

The KnifeCenter takes the safety of our employees and customers very seriously and we are following all recommended procedures from the CDC and our local governments to maintain proper cleanliness and safety precautions. All of our employees who are able to work from home are doing so and we are still open for business. As of now, orders are shipping out as normal and we are not experiencing any delays. Our phones are closed, so please direct any support inquiries through email (support@knifecenter.com). Thanks for sticking with us!

The 2020 Edition of the KnifeCenter Catalog is Here!

Clocking in at over 1,800 pages, the 2020 KnifeCenter Printed Catalog is the ultimate reference for the knife fanatic. With hundreds of brands and tens of thousands of products (Some of which haven’t even made it on our website yet!), the catalog practically contains the entire knife industry. The best part about this catalog is the element of discovery. The medium of a paper catalog can lead you to brands and products you wouldn’t find otherwise – the turn of a page reveals awesome gear you didn’t even know you wanted.

Happy New Year!

As one year ends and another begins we look back and take note of the tremendous growth of the knife industry. Custom knife makers both here and abroad have expanded their selection with some factory made models that they designed. Also, we have seen several new and major brands coming out of China offering an unprecedented variety of quality knives to the world. “Made in China” no longer means junk!

I am proud to say that the KnifeCenter has grown along with our industry. New employees are adding tremendously to our offerings. We are now featuring the absolute best product photography in the entire industry. Also, thanks to some great knife world talent joining our ranks, we have a tremendous amount of informative material about the items we offer. It’s an exciting time in the world of knives and knife retailing and we so much appreciate all of our loyal customers and visitors who make this business and lifestyle so worth it.

2020 should be another banner year and, from our family to yours, we hope everyone has a healthy and prosperous New Year! Please keep checking back!

2018 New York Custom Knife Show Haul – Part One

There’s always a high that you get from being at a custom knife show that doesn’t wear off for a couple of weeks, especially when we get back and get to photograph and handle all the incredible custom knives we picked up. The New York Custom Knife Show was awesome and full of great pieces that we just have to show off – let us know your favorites in the comments!

Peter Rassenti Custom Snafu 2.0 Flippers

Peter Rassenti’s signature Snafu 2.0 Flippers are amazing pieces from top to bottom. These knives are plenty strong and incredibly thin thanks to Peter’s trademark integral handle construction that uses a single piece of titanium for maximum strength. The 3.75” clip point blade offers plenty of reach, and we’ve got versions with CTS-XHP steel and Chad Nichols XHP-Core Damascus to go with the artfully machined single-piece frames.

More Great Combat and Tactical Knives!

Another week, another great batch of tactical knives and gear from KnifeCenter. From karambit flippers to American-made balisongs to self-defense pens, this collection features some seriously hardcore combat essentials.

Fox Italian-Made Karambit Flippers

No combat list feels complete without a karambit – especially a folding version that flips as well as these models from Fox Knives. These self-defense tools feature the patented Emerson Wave, a thumb slot and a flipper tab, so you’ll have your choice of deployment method. We have a great selection that includes aluminum, carbon fiber, and G10 handle options with Bohler N690 blades. We even have a trainer model with 420C steel if you need to do some practicing before handling the real deal.

Top Five Best ESEE Knives

Try this: whip out your phone and text the biggest outdoor and survival knife enthusiast you know and ask them this – “who makes the best survival knives in the business?” Chances are, they’re going to tell you that ESEE ranks pretty high (if not the highest). Since 1997, Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin have been changing the game when it comes to the wilderness industry. Their goal is to offer realistic tools that are designed for people that are going to use and abuse them, which is why their brand has been so successful. Their ‘no questions asked’ warranty doesn’t hurt, either – you’re essentially covered for everything but rust. If you break it, they will replace it.

Even in the company’s philosophy, it clearly states that one of the most important aspects of the business is that ESEE won’t provide a piece of gear that hasn’t been tested in the real world. How seriously do they take that mission? Considering that ESEE’s founders also run an adventure and training company that regularly does jungle survival courses in the Peruvian Amazon, we’d say – very. Anyone who regularly handles outdoor knives knows the power of 1095 carbon, and ESEE is able to get more out of that steel than any other production knife company thanks to their famous heat treatment.

You know the drill by now – as the leading cutlery retailer, we’re overqualified to cherry-pick the best ESEE knives for you. Let’s begin with the knife that started it all…

ESEE-3

Best Application

General purpose field and utility knife that’s perfect for bug-out bags or survival kits

Why We Love It

What the ESEE 3 lacks in size, it more than makes up for in strength. It’s the very first knife that Jeff and Mike debuted at ESEE, essentially making it their flagship knife. The National Tactical Officers Association gave it a 4.77 out of 5, cementing its reputation as a favorite with law enforcement and military teams.

Why You’ll Love It

Like we said before, you’re going to get more out of that 1095 carbon steel than you will from any other knife company. This knife is comfortable and easy to carry thanks to its size and versatile sheath. Because this is such a popular knife model, we have over 40 iterations of the ESEE 3. From combo blades to Venom Green finishes to highly visible orange scales, we can pretty much guarantee there’s a model out there for even the most eccentric knife user.

KnifeCenter Interviews Knife Designer Justin Gingrich

Justin Gingrich is a world-renowned knifemaker known for his multi-purpose knife designs with tactical leanings. He stopped by KnifeCenter to show off some of his custom fixed blades and his new folder, which features a proprietary delta lock design that is set to be one of the strongest locks ever.

The 5 Best Sub-$50 Knives with D2 Steel

D2 tool steel is widely considered to be one of the best steels for utility knives because of its affordability and edge retention, which is why so many great EDC knives rock a D2 steel blade with pride. This quality steel rides the line between a carbon steel and a stainless steel, a perk that makes it a popular choice for everyday carry knives that you’ll actually put to work on the regular.

There are two schools of thought when it comes to everyday pocket knives: any knife that you carry every day can be an EDC (no matter the cost) or it’s better to have an EDC that’s less expensive that you can abuse daily without guilt. For those out there that want to shill out less than fifty bucks for a pocket knife, but you want good performance steel – you’re in luck. KnifeCenter has pulled together the five best sub-$50 pocket knives with D2 blades.

The knife import game is changing. Imported knives are steadily improving in quality, and their affordable price points make these great designs more accessible to knife enthusiasts everywhere. Why not celebrate the fact that people of all backgrounds can enjoy the utility that comes with carrying a razor sharp knife?

Ontario RAT Model 2 Folding Knife

The scaled-down version of Ontario’s popular Rat 1 is an EDC folder that can withstand some serious abuse. The hunters and survivalists out there should pay extra attention to this knife – it is made for you. Jeff Randall’s knife design combines heavy-duty cutting power with a lightweight, slim build that rests comfortably in your pocket. The drop point blade profile is perfect for utility tasks, and the liner lock offers rock-solid lockup and slick deployment. While it is nylon and materials obviously play a role in the low cost, the light weight, great grip, and corrosion-resistance are perks that makes this knife worth every penny.
