We are closing out 2018 with another great batch of custom and mid-tech knives. From mokume pens made by Sergey Rogovets to S90V EDC knives from up-and-coming custom knifemaker Kendall Hughes, each item on this list is better than the last.
Sergey Rogovets Custom Mokume Pens
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but we can’t imagine a soul on earth not finding these pens to be over the top gorgeous. They are far and away the nicest writing implements we’ve ever carried and we don’t see them getting any better than this.
Today, we’re going to do something a little bit different. We’re going to take a look at our product specialist (and star of our YouTube channel) David C. Andersen’s favorite knives from 2018. Let’s check them out!
So, first up is his pick for Favorite New Budget Folding Knife, and it’s the ESEE Expat Knives MEDELLIN.
What’s really cool about this knife is it’s the ESEE 3 blade shape in a very easy to carry folding knife. It’s made in Taiwan with some excellent AUS-8 stainless steel. The frame lock makes it nice and slim, and the deep-carry pocket clip makes it very easy to carry – either tip-up or tip-down, depending on your preference.
Let’s take a look at some of 2018’s greatest knife hits from Knife Center. These are knives that you guys just couldn’t get enough of and we sold more of than any other knives. Here’s the rundown:
Spyderco SpyderHawk Salt Folding Knife
So, we’ve sold a lot of Spyderco knives this year, including a lot of the Para 3, but what really surprised us was the SpyderHawk Salt. This is one of our top-selling Spydercos of the year, and it has to be because of how distinctive it is. This folding knife would make a great dive knife because it features a fully serrated hawkbill blade with Spyderco’s H1 steel. That’s right, this knife is a part of Spyderco’s Salt Series, which means it’s virtually impervious to rust, making it great for use in marine environments.
2018 may be coming to an end, but there are some industry-leading knife makers out there who are still putting out incredible custom and mid-tech knives before the New Year. Not only did we pick up some new automatics from Pro-Tech Knives, but we also have a custom tactical beard comb from none other than Tony Marfione that is a fidgeter’s dream. Let’s kick off the list with one of the coolest knife collaborations we’ve seen in a while…
Jake Hoback/Snecx Collaboration Buster
The design genius Tan from Snecx Design Lab is one of the most interesting makers in our industry as he has no formal background in knives. He was just a guy in search of the perfect knife three years ago who set out to make his own, never knowing that he would be collaborating with some of the best in the business so quickly. The Buster is amazing and a must-have in your collection – we’ll just leave it at that.

KnifeCenter believes in giving back to society in the form of volunteering and donations to charities. We have decided that, instead of just writing checks to the various organizations, we can take some of our great products, raffle them off, and give all of the resulting money to charity. This not only helps our customers get products they may not typically be able to afford, but it also helps out our charity of choice – everyone wins!
Generally, we give to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a great organization that we’ll continue to support. We also have some local organizations that we feel do a wonderful job in our area of central Virginia. We hope that you will take a chance on our Holiday Charity Raffles for really fine items. Be sure to stay tuned to our Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube for upcoming charity raffle giveaway announcements.
Thanks to everyone that supports these charities and our ongoing mission to help our community!
These are just some of the charities that KnifeCenter supports.
We’re featuring another round of great outdoor knives and survival gear that are awesome gift ideas, including handy tools that will make picking the perfect Christmas tree a cinch this year. Let us know in the comments what you think!
Victorinox Navy Camouflage Swiss Army Knives
We can safely say that we’ve never been bored by a Swiss Army multi-tool design, and the nautical camouflage pattern on this new collection of Victorinox knives continues that tradition. You’ll have your choice of Classic SD, Skipper and Huntsman models, which give you up to 14 integrated functions. This holiday season, skip the lame stuffers and add these to your family’s stockings. Multi-tools make great gifts for everyone, and these unique colors are sure to be a hit this holiday season.
If you already have a well-stocked EDC rotation or you know your friends’ pockets and packs are full up on folders and fixed blades, it’s time to expand into accessories. Most knife enthusiasts prefer to spend most of their spare change on knives, but why not pick up a little something extra that will make your carrying experience better? From cool lanyards to customized hardware to decorated clips, KnifeCenter has pretty much everything you need to deck out your knife with style.
With hundreds of options, we can’t go into each and every one, but we’ve chosen our favorite knife accessories for you that we think would definitely be a welcome addition to anyone’s collection.
GD Skulls USA Bead Series
Genadijs Dmitrijevs specializes in handmade beads of the highest quality 925 silver and bronze. They’re much heftier than many other skull beads on the market because of their premium materials and construction. The real reason you should pick up one of these beads? Look at them! They’re super cool and there’s a huge collection of different options – everything from gas masked skulls to pirates to cowboys. Adding one of these to your lanyard will not only take your knife to the next level aesthetically, but it’ll make it easier to withdraw your knife from your pocket – a true win-win.
We’ve had a few whirlwind weeks since Spyderco announced their annual list of discontinued knives, and we’ve got only a few models left that will never be produced again. These (now super collectible) knives have been severely discounted, so check out the last of what we have to offer before they’re all gone for good!
Spyderco Chaparral Folding Knife 2.79” CTS-XHP Blade, Blue Stepped Titanium Handles
This model is one of three Chaparral folders we have left, and this one is particularly eye-catching because of the unique blue handles. After a complex initial machining process, the stepped titanium scales are color anodized to give them a brilliant blue hue, and then they’re machined again to make the alternating layers that create the unique pattern.
